Program Note
The summer of 2013 was rather special to me in that I went to the gym almost every day. The first things I heard when getting into the gym were bouncing basketballs on the floor, mixed with shoes squeaking and occasional huff and puff. “It would be fun,” I thought, “to write a piece about this.” And I did.
That's about it: this piece is, as its title might suggest, all about “bounce” – those of bows and mallets on the strings and percussion, bouncing musical figurations, and acoustic, harmonic, and even structural bounces. I hope you can bounce with this piece!!
