Texu Kim (김택수, b.1980) is "one of the most active and visible composers of his generation" (San Francisco Classical Voice), writing music that transforms unconventional sources — from everyday encounters to overlooked human stories — into sophisticated, culturally grounded works infused with clarity, wit, and nuance. As a Korean-American, Kim explores the localization of imported traditions, incorporating cross-cultural elements that have drawn the interest of orchestras and conductors worldwide. Characterized by"exuberant, colorful washes of sound" (San Diego Story), his music is at times "explosively virtuosic" (Wall Street Journal), yet consistently uplifting and rewarding for both listeners and performers.

A recipient of the 2026 American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Arts and Letters Award in Music – one of four composers recognized this cycle for having "arrived at their own voice” – Texu has received awards and honors from the Fromm Foundation, Barlow Prize, Ilshin Foundation, Civitella Ranieri Foundation, Copland House, SCI/ASCAP, and IsangYun International Composition Prize.
An incoming professor at Indiana University, Texu currently teaches at San Diego State University and has previously taught at Syracuse University. He has also served as the Artist-of-the-Year of the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra and as the Composer-in-Residence of the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, where he launched the Composers' Atelier program to educate and commission emerging composers. His mentors include Unsuk Chin, Sangjick Jun, David Dzubay, Claude Baker, and Sven-David Sandström.

작곡가 김택수(1980년 서울 출생)는 국립심포니오케스트라 상주작곡가 및 부산시립교향악단 올해의 예술가를 역임하였다. 그는 서울대학교(화학, 작곡 학사 및 작곡 석사) 및 인디애나 대학교(작곡 박사) 학위 취득 후(사사: David Dzubay, Claude Baker, Sven-David Sandström, 진은숙, 전상직, 서정은), 현재 샌디에이고 주립대학교에 재직 중이며, 2026년 가을부터 인디애나 대학교 작곡과 교수로 부임한다. 그는 "일상에서의 경험"부터 "주목받지 못한 사람들의 이야기"까지, 다소 전통적이지 않은 소재들을 세련되게, 또 한국적 정서를 담아 음악으로 승화시키고 있다.

편곡자로서도 활발하게 활동해 온 김택수는 조수미, 신영옥, 홍혜란, 하피스트 곽정, 대금 연주자 김정승, 바이올리니스트 김수연, 김지연, 비올리스트 리처드 용재 오닐, 피아니스트 손열음, 뮤지컬 배우 양준모 등의 음반에 참여하였다. 그의 편곡 코사크 자장가는 소치 동계 패럴림픽 개막식에서 연주되었고, 이후 데카 Aida Garifullina의 음반에 수록되었다.
