Program Notes
PyeongChang Arari is the most popular folk song in PyeongChang, Gangwon. It is basically one single melody, but there are numerous variations depending on singers and lyrics. Inspired by the unique exquisiteness, the composer came up with a variation to add more to the beauty of wide variations presented in the same melody.
An intro just feeling like gentle waves in the East Sea is followed PyeongChang Arari melody which depicts the joys and sorrows of old farmers and also the liveliness of busy and crowded streets, as it takes us to the breathtaking Taebaek Mountain ranges full of wonders. The 10-minute long journey concludes with a magnificent fanfare wishing great success for the upcoming PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games.
